At first it was difficult for me to tolerate sitting still and listening to a lecture for hours at a time again, but I've redeveloped the knack.

I don't know how you do it. I marvel at one of the great skills produced by American high schools, the ability to stay in a room during a boring lecture for 50 minutes. Notice I do not include the verb "listen". I found, early on, that if I failed to include some back and forth with the class, at least half the class missed the entire point. They would look involved but had learned how to portray it without doing it.

I, of course, recalled my own undergraduate days when I possessed those skills.

Hard to recapture them, I would think.
