12:19 ET Bond Ticker : The Philly Fed index surged to 14.7 in Jan from a -12.6 in Dec and -28.5 in October. Bond bearish as it suggests a strong upturn in the manufacturing sector... The huge upsurge in the Philly Fed index is very suspect as far as a telling indicator for the national situation. The ISM (formerly NASM) and Philly index travel in similar trends but the Philly index is far more volatile given the small confines of the Fed district it reports on.
