JC, Re: "I get the impression that Jerry strongly considered dumping (or at least drastically lowering selling prices to move out extra quantity) but was talked out of it somehow. If you recall his interview midquarter, he strongly, strongly suggested that shipments could be in excess of 8.0 million. With the sudden shift to higher ASPs at the expense of market share, I am very interested in finding out what is happening behind the scenes at this company."

That's a good observation. I wouldn't call it mutiny in the ranks, but I think that since Jerry is retiring soon, some of the longer term management probably feel that it's time for AMD to start acting rationally, rather than concentrating solely on Jerry's Revenge.

My guess is that this is Hector's influence. His influence certainly has grown in the last few months (new CFO, new flash memory vice-president, possible foundry agreement etc.). When hearing Jerry's "Intel is over" speech I got the impression that Jerry feels that he is running out of time (only a few months left until he will retire). He surely wants to leave AMD gracefully and he can only do that if he can brag about how well he fought against his arch-enemy.
