SONY ERICSSON: STARTS COOPERATION WITH MICROCEL
(News agency Direkt) -- Sony Ericsson has started cooperation with Finnish Microcell, according to a press statement Thursday.

Microcell will be so called Original Design Manufacturing partner with Sony Ericsson, which means that it will develop and produce mobile phones based on Sony Ericsson`s specifications.

Microcell also announced that Anders Torstensson, who earlier headed Ericsson Mobile Communications, was appointed CEO of Microcell as of December 1, 2001.

Germany's T-Mobile has reported that its cellular subscriber base increased by 20 million to almost 67 million over the past year, representing a 40% rise.

In the USA, VoiceStream concluded 2001 with a record quarter: The company increased its subscriber base by 668,000 to approximately 7 million. With net increases of more than 87 % in the fourth quarter, VoiceStream is continuing with its focus on contract subscribers. Overall, VoiceStream increased the number of subscribers in 2001 on a comparable basis by 2.2 million, more than 45 %.

Siemens Chief Executive Heinrich von Pierer seperatly announced that T-Mobile has awarded Siemens an order for 2 million GSM1900 handsets for shipment to VoiceStream in the USA.

The key figures for the full 2001 financial year will be published on March 5, 2002.
