Siebel Systems (SEBL) 34.87 +2.68: -- Before Open -- Mixed comments out on SEBL's product upgrade cycle this morning: Salomon Smith Barney upgrades the stock to BUY from Outperform based on their positive expectations of the current upgrade cycle (see In-Play for coverage). SG Cowen believes there will be a slower than expected uptake on SEBL 7 and retains a more cautious near-term approach to shares, noting the stock has appreciated to "be one of the most expensive software stocks." Cowen conducted a survey of 10 large customers of SEBL and found that while customers expressed interest in the newly release SEBL 7, they expressed little imminent rush to upgrade. Several respondents noted concerns regarding the performance as well as the upgrade path, meaning mgmt's goal of 90% upgraded by year end is not easily achievable. Cowen remains positive on SEBL in the long-term and maintains their Buy rating.

Wondering what effects MSFT earnings will have on the market tonight?

Looks like everything is going down. No good news can change anything. Right now, after hours, SEBL has lost all of it's days gains back to it's opening gap up. I failed to jump on the bandwagon today. I want to play this puppy. But want to play it after the correction and on an uptrend. Not a one day bounce. From this afternoons news. I might tend to think SEBL will go down the evening it announces earnings...unless they're astronomically good....which I doubt.
