This morning's weakness is being attributed to dismal results from Kulicke & Soffa (KLIC -9.6%) and reports that co's conference call also disappointed. We are hearing that Goldman Sachs is advising to avoid buying the dips, as firm continues to anticipate negative news during earnings season. 11:45AM Kulicke & Soffa (KLIC) 15.74 -1.75 (-10%): -- Update -- Technical -- An ugly day in the wake earnings report (see 06.56 comment) but stock has held near support at 15.60/15.20 (chart barrier/200 day simple ma/bottom of Nov gap). Ability to stabilize near here and the oversold condition created by the5 day 25% plunge allows for at least some upside corrective action. 10:13AM Sector Watch: Semiconductor : Solid start for the sector being undermined by weakness in chip equipment (NVLS -3.1%, AMAT -2.4%, KLAC -1.4%) with TER (-4%) the worst performer in the semi index (Merrill Lynch downgrade see 07:22 comment). Sector index (SOX) has recently taken out yesterday's low (failed at 50 day ma on opening run) with next support of interest in the 522/521 area.
