If you go over the earnings in detail, lots of companies are making or beating the bottomline number, but missing the topline. If the topline numbers aren't growing or at least flat, it isn't really a sign that a bottom is in place

16:38 ET Molecular Devices (MDCC) 17.83 -0.12: Reports Q4 EPS of $0.12, $0.01 better than consensus; revs came in at $25.4 mln, better than consensus of $24.71 mln. The co estimates Q1 EPS of $0.04-$0.06 and revs of $20-$22 mln (short of EPS consensus of $0.07 and above $20.00 mln rev est), and reiterated FY02 guidance of $0.60-$0.70 in EPS on $95-$105 mln in revs (vs consensus of $0.61 on rev est of $98.99 mln).

16:35 ET After Hours Movers : Prices vs 4 pm ET close... MSFT -1.80 selling off on earnings that appear to have missed by two cents. GNSS -3.51 getting hit despite beating the Street by 8 cents and issuing in line guidance. PWAV -0.35 edging lower on in line results. ELON +0.95 bidding up on in line results. MROI +0.95 also higher after beating the Street by 7 cents.




16:33 ET TranSwitch (TXCC) 4.40 +0.36: Reports Q4 (Dec) loss of $0.11, a penny better than the Multex consensus of ($0.12); revenues were $4.5 mln vs consensus of $4.4 mln.




16:30 ET Xilinx (XLNX) 43.06 +1.78: -- Update -- Reports Q3 pro forma EPS of $0.07, $0.03 better than consensus; revs increased sequentially to $228.1 mln, better than consensus of $212.88 mln.




16:25 ET Iomega (IOM) 8.78 +0.33: Reports Q4 EPS of $0.18 (excluding restructuring charges), $0.25 better than consensus of ($0.07). EPS including restructuring charges was reported as $0.07.




16:24 ET Microsoft (MSFT) 69.86 +1.99: -- Update -- For MarQ, co sees EPS of $0.50-$0.51 on rev of $7.3-$7.4 bln. Current estimates for the qtr are $0.47 and $7.475 bln. For the full yr, co sees EPS of $1.57-$1.60 (consensus $1.83) and rev of $28.8-$29.1 bln (consensus $28.68 mln).
