When the DA and the criminal defendant try to work out a plea bargain, only the defendant's rear end is on the line. Regardless of what the defendant decides to do, the DA will have his usual lunch, his usual dinner, and sleep in his own bed at the end of the day, along side his wife. In the situation of Israel/Palestine, I don't think either party has the luxury of saying, "it really doesn't matter to me what you decide to do."
