that's because I figured it out without a formula.<g>

I then asked MrL for the formula, and here's what he came up with:

To solve for x1(which is #of children's tickets here)

x=cost of adult tickets ($6)
y=cost of child tickets ($3)

a=total cost of all tickets ($390)
b=total number of adult and child tickets (100)

formula:
a divided by (x minus y), minus b = x1.

or, as here

390 divided by (6 minus 3), minus 100
390 divided by 3 = 130, less 100 = 30, which is the
number of children's tickets. THen it is just subtraction
to get the 70.
