yeah, well, writing English is pretty much a hanging offense in the academy today, unfortunately. means you're considered a lightweight. But here's a piece of hers from Dissent that's written for a more general audience...

I don't know what you've been reading lately but, compared with most academic prose these days--take literary theory as an illustration or my discipline, sociology, her book and the proposal for the next one, are written in very clear prose, even elegant at times.
