I wonder were the economy and the stock market would be right now if we wiped out the FED's 7(or so) interest rate hikes, and the 11 interest rate cuts in the last two years?

Or yeah let us not forget the liquidity power that the FED possesses. They can raise rates while taking liquidity out of the system -like 2000. And they can lower rates and keep liquidity at a stand still, till those rates kick in -like they did in 2001.

Of course they can also TALK WORRY INTO THE SYSTEM -like Greenspan did last week.

Terrorist, Enron, Greenspan, MSFT's legal charges/negative views (nothing new with MSFT), IBM's pc views, Dems/Repb stimulus disagreements etc. etc. all factored into this stock market.

What does the future hold?
