Federal regulators clear Millennium-COR merger CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 17 (Reuters) - Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NasdaqNM:MLNM - news) said on Thursday that federal regulators have approved its pending acq Io???s Inc. (NasdaqNM:CORR - news). Millennium said the U.S. Federal Trade Commission granted early termination of the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 on January 14, paving the way for the deal to proceed. Shareholders from both companies will vote on the deal at special meetings scheduled for Feb. 12. The companies said the deal is also subject to other customary closing conditions. Millennium and COR announced their plans to merge on Dec. 6, in a deal that would give COR shareholders 0.9873 shares of newly-issued Millennium common stock in exchange for each COR share. When the deal was announced, it was worth an estimated $2 billion, and was the biggest proposed acquisition ever in the biotechnology industry.
