The Recycle icon is actually hard to get rid of - maybe it is on the edge of the desktop "hanging by a single pixel".

Right-click on desktop|arrange icons|auto-arrange. It should move back into view.

Let me know if this is it

DismalScientist,

The Recycle Bin is a hidden file on your hard drive. It should be located in your root directory and named "Recycled" (C:\RECYCLED).

If you have "Tweak UI" installed on your PC, here is how to you can get the Recycle bin back on your desktop.

In the Control Panel, double click on "Tweak UI". Select the "Desktop" tab. Scroll down the "Special desktop icons" and select the "Recycle Bin" box. Then click on OK. This should restore the Recycle Bin icon to your desktop.

Hope this helps.

B.K.

Go to your display from the control panel or right-click your desktop and choose properties. Now this is for 98, so depending on what OS you have it could be a bit different.

Click on the "Effect" or "desktop" tab....see what icon is being used for your Recycle bin. If there is no pic there, then that is probably your problem. If no icon is viewable click the restore default button

If that doesn't work you can make it yourself. This involves editing the registry so be very careful to follow the instructions to the letter. If you are not comfortable with this don't do it. You can use tweakui or xteq or some other tweaking program to restore it.

Open the Registry Editor by selecting Start, Run, typing regedit and clicking OK. Navigate your way to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. In the left pane, right-click the NameSpace key and select New, Key.
Type exactly 645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E and press Enter. (To save yourself some typing, copy the above line to your clipboard, then press Ctrl-V after selecting New, Key.)
In the right pane, right-click (Default) and select Modify.
In the resulting Edit String dialog box, on the Value Data line, type Recycle Bin and click OK.
Close the Registry Editor, click the desktop once, press F5 (for refresh), and there's your Recycle Bin icon.
