Sorry, that was all from books. Really, though, you'd be hard pressed to come up with anybody serious who claims that Israel was the underdog in 1948. Simha Flapan and Benny Morris are two Israeli historians who have done quality research on 1948 war. Walid Khalidi is a Palestinian researcher.

That was an excellent move by Egypt. After repeated aggression by Israel (1956, 1967, not to mention all the Palestinian refugees that Israel drove into Egypt), Egypt reclaimed its land. At that point, Egypt certainly had earned the right to punish the Zionists by attacking Israel, but the overprotective parent America quickly intervened to prevent that. And so, our little problem child Israel wasn't taught its lesson.
