No, I don't think it is really O/T at all.

It seems the US is in a catch-22 situation: it is damned if it leaves Saudi Arabia and damned if it doesn't. But I guess the US has no choice but to get out gradually in a face-saving manner.

I guess prince Abdullah realizes only too well the precariousness of the House of Saudi, especially when its origin is not all that "legit". To be sure, the exit of the US will go a long way towards delegitimizing the claims of OBL and give him a sense of moral victory! Perhaps the attacks on Americans might wind down or cease altogether???

Now that the US will most likely be out of Saudi Arabia sooner than later, it is very likely the US might begin to create a quasi-colony in impoverished Afghanistan and/or its environs. Why not? Lots of oil there! And lots of people need to be helped economically! And Al-Qaeda needs to be extinguished forever! Yea, kill three birds with one stone!
