Doggie, SS disability requires a period of six months disability before eligibility. A six month deductible, if you will. I was in the business for over 20 years, I've been out a few, so I don't know if this waiting period has been changed. Following the six month deductible, it takes another six months to process, and in most cases, first time filers are rejected and the process starts over again.

I had a few clients that I suggested they get Strom Thurmond's office involved in the process, when it was clear that the disability was a hardship on the family.

One of my clients trusted in the system as opposed to contacting the Senator's office. He lost his home and everything else in the process. He finally had to use Strom's office and the disability payments shortly followed.

Your friend may need to contact his local Senator and ask for help. That's where politicians seem to do their best work.
