Ban Ban MindBlo - Re: "AMD said on Wednesday that its market share was 20 percent at the end of the fourth quarter, compared with 16 to 17 percent at the end of 2000"

Uh....AMD's 20% market share at the end of the fourth quarter is DOWN FROM their 21.7 % market share at the end of Q3 2001

INTEL GAINED AT LEAST 1.7% MARKET SEGMENT SHARE - in a quarter where AMD had RECORD CPU SALES !!
.

Looks like AMD is really slipping - in market share as well as product introductions !

Milo, I think AMD gained share overall from 2000 to 2001, but Intel was gaining share as 2001 drew to a close.

Milo, I certainly don't need to reiterate what the other people have said regarding IDC's estimates. Just be careful in the future to be observant of which market the gains are coming from, and what date they are being comparing to.

Jerry Sanders is going to claim gains in market share by bringing up Dollar Market Share, or YoY Unit Market Share. However, the market share he had previously bragged about for the last several quarters was Unit Market Share on a QoQ basis, but he's certainly not going to bring that statistic up this time, since Intel won back >1.7% of it.

It is the old "Where's Mine" Jerry story, Change the metric to make you look good. AMD lost share Q4 over Q3 so now it is time to switch. AMD gained share year to year.

ZDnet bought it and of course you Droids bought it too.

Still think that "line yields in the high 90%" area means AMD has high 90% die yields?

Did you notice how the cash position on the AMD balance sheet keeps shrinking? Can't miss that.
