Given that "new computers" start at under $500 for complete systems I'd say that puts a pretty tight lid on the "big value" that older machines have.

But within a network environment Windows Terminal Server permits the sort of multi-user sharing you want. If I have a bunch of old Win98 or Win95 systems I can install a small client program (part of XP) which will allow them to operate as terminals logging into a Windows XP host system. Is that what you're looking for?
