<<another guy who loves to toss words around.>>

I have to use words, until a technology for direct thought transfer is invented. And words have emotional content, unavoidably.

<<Arabs make up about 20% of Israel's population, and they have lived and prospered among Jews for decades>>

Depends on how you define "prospered", and what other group is used for comparison. Compared to Jewish Israelis, they have not prospered. Compared to, say, Afghanis, they have prospered. Blacks in the U.S. and South Africa (under apartheid) also "prospered", with incomes higher than in Uganda and Congo. This "prosperity" made American Blacks unwilling to emigrate back to Africa, but not exactly content.

<<Ethnic cleansing is usually associated with murder, rape, looting, as it was done to the Albanians in Kosovo, by the Serbs.>>

Israelis would probably be able to manage a "kindler, gentler" version of ethnic cleansing. Relatively speaking. The same result, just not so nasty. Creating conditions of near-universal unemployment, has already been done. Next would be the wholesale destruction of their houses. Finally, escort them to the borders, while trying hard to make sure CNN has no full-color horrors to show the world.

<<Israel's friendship with America is very strong>>

Nations have interests, not friends. In 1956, the U.S. organized the first oil embargo, shutting off oil to Israel, England, and France, to force them to give the Sinai and Suez back to Egypt. If Israel were to expel all the Moslems, and annex the West Bank, the U.S. would have a very difficult decision to make, about the value of our Israeli alliance. Our first priority is the WarOnTerror, and that cannot be won without the help of Moslem nations like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc.

If Israel were admitted to NATO, Bin Laden could say, "See, I was right. Israel is a Crusader State, created and supported by the Christian Nations. This is a Clash Of Civilizations, and all Moslems must unite to expel in invader in our midst." And most people from Morrocco to Indonesia would agree with him. Result: more wars. Do you think that Poland and Hungary (members of NATO) would be willing to guarantee Israel's borders? The last time soldiers from those countries went to the Holy Land was.......in the Crusades.

If only the Palestinians had accepted what Israel offered during the last negotiations. They offered 90%+ of the West Bank and Gaza, and even were willing to cede some control in Jerusalem. The Palestinians made as bad a mistake as when they rejected the 1947 UN plan.
