One last thing is, again, what's been kicked around a lot: why didn't AMD make money last quarter if so many good things came together? Could be too much engineering salary (plus management of course) drain for what they can ship for revenues.

Well the market was there, Intel was soldout and AMD couldn't deliver, even with F30 running at 100% capacity with their "World Class Yields". You may be right about the salaries but it isn't going to get cheaper to design and stay competitive. AMD is targeting very small die sizes. Maybe for the reasons you stated. My concern is if AMD ever gets their manufacturing infrastructure running smoothly they will be very tough to deal with.

EP
