Then they would need to develop the operating system from scratch, and Red Hat would not be a suitable company to do that. Any operating system that uses the Linux kernel is on the internet if it has TCP/IP on a network adaptor. AOL or not.

That sounds like the speculation of the article's author. I don't think there's any evidence that it reflects AOL's plans.
