So now, if you want to say I was enthusiastic about Ariba at 120, and here it is at 7, knock yourself out. I'm still enthusiastic about Ariba. Gene and Mark can tell you first hand when I decided eschew trading and stay invested in Feb 2000. Well, I did it. Tell me how that's dishonest in any form.

Bill,

That is not dishonest. Saying you were enthusiastic about Ariba at 120 is honest. I was too. I thought you were implying you were not enthusiastic. What the market action turned out to be til now is a different story and really has no bearing on the discussion. The Fed surely did not help among other issues. The phrases being thrown around I suppose are various ways of saying one is enthusiastic although some are more extreme than others. I do not recall you calling it a "screaming buy." A screaming buy can be interpreted to being more than enthusiastic.

I have the same faith in these companies I had two years ago. Does that settle it?

This settles it for me. You were enthusiastic back when the market was higher and you still are today. My cost basis on Akamai is a lot higher than where it is currently trading but I am still enthusiastic.

On the lighter side, there was a post back on this thread in August of 1998 where you indicated selling used product on the internet would be difficult due to lack of knowing the condition of the product, trusting the seller, etc. I wish I had copied that one because hindsight is so easy. Someone no longer active on this thread asked you if you ever heard of eBay.com and was it a public firm. These are not quotes but at that time you stated you were not real familiar with them. Ebay was virtually unknown here and may even have IPOed as of yet. It appears it was an opportunity that a lot of us missed I think. It was somewhat enjoyable going through some of the old comments. There was someone else saying that Planetall would have a membership close to being almost all on the internet in the US.

Anyhow, I do not believe dwelling on this further has anything for anyone to gain.

Thank you for your very polite and honest post about your feelings about those firms.

Glenn
