Alas, most Japanese savings are "invested" in Japanese government obligations. Japan's national debt as a percent of GDP is the highest among developed countries and it continues growing at an alarming rate. When retirement comes, the Japanese may find themselves holding mostly worthless government IOUs. As for the overseas factories, if I were Japanese, I would rather prefer my factories on my soil, even if they are run by unwashed immigrants. Who knows what the Chinese attitude will be when they become a superpower in a couple of decades -- they will probably still remember the Rape of Nanking.
