Changing file associations

To add to Stangs excellent advice you can change the program that opens a file type by holding down the shift key and right-clicking the file. This places "Open With" on your dropdown menu and by choosing this option the "Open With" box will appear. For opening the file one time don't put a checkmark in the "Always open...etc" checkbox below thw list of programs. Putting a checkmark in this box will make the chosen program the default with this file type. You will eventually run across programs that will steal the default association that you want when opening files so this is a good one to keep in mind.

Note- Windows XP has "open with" on the right-click menu so you don't have to hold down the shift key.
