The only reason that the incumbent has an "advantage" is because the voters let it be an advantage. ********************************************************** It is not quite that simple. The incumbent has the advantage of name recognition which unfortunately can effect the outcome of an election. S/he also has a financial advantage because statistics show that incumbents win more than 50% of the time, therefore, those contributing campaign funds give the greater amount to the person already holding the office.
