thanks so much for giving us some feedback from the actual world out there. We all would like to hear more from actual users. I, as most others on this board, was very much hoping that this would happen one day. As you said , it was just a concept. I think yours is one of the first posts ( maybe the first) of reports from actual users who actually bought the product, without being resellers ( it sounds like this is the case ).
wj 's question is important.............how difficult was it.............and, were you aware from the start of the 2G addition that you would have to do this ?
thanks windmast

Firmware upgrades are the norm. One switch vendor has three different code trees and 18 variants of firmware. The fact the Q's switches are hot upgrades is a real benefit.

Walter,

Let me start by saying this is out of my area of discipline. Our networking people aren't as comfortable with this process so it was a little intimidating to them (this is the regional arm of an insurance company and as an industry we are rarely on the leading edge of anything). They haven't upgraded the firmware yet but are doing so this weekend. They said support from Qlogic was top notch. Q has written scripts for them to use and will be walking them through the upgrades over the weekend. Once again, they are very pleased with the switches' performance and the vendor support. They just got caught thinking the 1 and 2 gig switches worked seamlessly. Hope this helps.

Ron
