"Say no to CAFE and lighter weight pickups."

The author of the article is a Republican officeholder in the State of North Carolina, but he may be a high-school graduate. He also has a dairy (let's talk a little about government support, buddy?) and a machine shop (I am sure he disposes of his metal-contaminated waste properly). The article features, among other moronic assertions, the following, which is both facially absurd and unattributed:

A 1999 study reported that lighter-vehicle designs driven by the CAFÉ requirements caused the deaths of 46,000 accident victims who would have survived in heavier vehicles.
