I think the SEC may require this in the future, I remember hearing something about it. I hope they also prohibit practices like transferring expenses from one division to another, as Intel does with it's "Other" division.

When flash was going gangbusters 18 months ago, the Bees were claiming that all AMD's profits came from flash. Last quarter flash sales were down from $458M in Q4'00 to only $196M. Yikes! If we assume that flash had a profit of $100M in Q4'2000 (more than half of the $178M reported), and given the fact that this is a 2/3 fixed cost business, that would mean costs on the $196M of sales were 358-(1/3)*(458-196), or $271M. That would mean that the flash division lost $75M in Q4, which dwarfs the operating loss of $18M.
