I wouldn't make that conclusion. Airplanes are not malls. If they don't get filled, they get removed from the schedule. Zürich is also more popular than Geneva.

Figures like GDP, unemployment, mall visits, etc are more reliable.

I find that are fewer flights, and that may be accounting for the higher load factors. Also finding that the telecom/computer industry is still dead but that there are a lot of new requirements for DoD work in the consulting field. Northern Virginia is heavily telecom in the outer burbs and heavily defense/government in the inner burbs, though defense is nowhere near as its heyday in the 80s.
