I don't post on the forum where you sent the above message any longer. I don't have time.

That's fine. We all have to prioritize our time.

I have heard that race-relations in England are not very good. Socially, the country is segregated.

Not a simple subject. Racial bigotry seems to rear it's ugly head every where that I can think of. But it's a matter of degree and perception as well. My observation is that blacks are pretty well integrated and accepted into the society. Indians and Pakistanis, not as well. Immigrants in any country typically suffer from discrimination, East Asians and Asians fall into that category here.

It's hard to measure the degree; immigrants nearly always migrate to the same neighborhoods. You can look at the history of the US with the major immigration from ~1890-1920. Slovak, Bohemian, Irish, English, German, etc., neighborhoods quite distinct and exploited. But I've wandered through London, both the good and bad parts, and never seen anything close to the segregation/slums of Wash D.C., Detroit, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles. Relative perception is a point of consideration.

Perception: Allow me to shift to crime data for the perception issue, it's more easily available. The annual crime data for England was just released a few weeks ago. The perception throughout England is that crime is spiralling out of control. You can even find certain crimes, perhaps in certain localities, that seem to fit the perception. The theft of cell phones fits the bill. But in the end, the chances that you'll be a victim of crime in England are the lowest they've been in 20 years. Murders in London went from 30 to 60 [year to date]; it horrifies the English. What's the murder rate in D.C. year to date? While a 100% increase is alarming, when you have small numbers such as 30 it's not unexpected to see large variances in percentages.
