Walmart will not be free to raise prices, just because KMart is gone -- KMart wasn't their big competitor anyway. Wouldn't surprise me though if foodstuffs see further price hikes ...Interesting that WMT chose to go into this biz when they did. I go there a lot, simply because they are cheap -- if they raised prices much, I'd quit fighting the crowds and buy from a grocery -- the groceries do run specials on a lot of stuff that way undercut WMT.

Often when I need just an item or two for the home that isn't specialty, I'll look at WMT since they are always cheaper than HD or LOW -- sometimes of course, I have to go to HD or LOW. I think HD and LOW have enticed a lot of folks to pay higher prices with those 0% interest rate deals for x months. I still say -- the fact that they are resorting to this 'gimmick' means that the whole industry has hit the sales growth wall -- we've peaked.
