" (1) US making nice-nice with Iran. (2) US allies prevented action against Iraq. (3) US and Saudis making hints about pulling US troops out. (4) Israelis and Palestinians both getting bad press. The hints are all there for you to see. Re: "President Bush said, "2002 will be a year of war." Are we going to fight in Europe? " Maybe you shouldn't believe in everything that politicians say. In the middle of a war they do tend to, ahem, overstate their positions a bit. Re: "Since the people have a democratic outlet for their dissatifactions, the government of Bahrain does not have to keep waving the Zionist bogeyman front and center, so Bahrain's pronouncements on Israel have grown much more moderate. " It is an Israeli dream that when the Arab nations all become moderate and Democratic the issue with the Palestinians will go away. I doubt that this will happen. As far as Bahrain's attitude towards Israel and the Palestinians, why not look on their .gov web site?AMIR HOLDS TALKS WITH ARAFAT Bahrains strong support for the Palestinian cause was underlined last night when HH the Amir Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa held talks with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in the presence of Crown Prince and BDF Commanderin-Chief Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. During the audience at the Safriya Palace they discussed the escalating Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in the occupied territories. The talks also focused on Middle East peace process in addition to issues of mutual concern. The Amir reiterated Bahrains support for the Palestinian issue so that its people gain their legitimate rights and the creation of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He also asserted full support for international efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian people and efforts to end the Middle East violence. Later the Amir hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the visiting Palestinian leader which was also attended by senior Ruling Family members and ministers. Mr Arafat earlier arrived on a two-day visit and was received at the airport by Foreign Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.bahrain.gov.bh FREE PALESTINE The West must demand an independent Palestinian state if it is to win back the support of the Arab world says HH the Amir Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. If we have done the right thing in Afghanistan then we have to apply the same thing in Palestine he says. Israel and Palestine must be formed into two states the Amir says in an interview appearing in Britains Daily Telegraph newspaper. This should be an urgent mission following the success of the international alliance in its war in Afghanistan against international terrorism he says.bahrain.gov.bh Also see:bahraintribune.com bahraintribune.com bahrain.gov.bh bahrain.gov.bh bahrain.gov.bh bahrain.gov.bh bahrain.gov.bh hawar.gov.bh bahrain.gov.bh My statement on the fact that the US isn't willing to take a bullet for Israel also applies to Bahrain. As a country, they're not willing to take a bullet for Palestine. But that doesn't help things much. The immediate problem for Israel is, as is now evident, is domestic terrorism, not an attack by the Arabs. -- Carl
