I recall reading about the evacuation.

A few weeks back, the national press reported that
Pakistan had released 8 Taliban. Rummy denied it.
He knew anything about it.

The problem is that the kinship ties in Afghanistan
and Pakistan are very strong, and they do not
count kin the same way as we do.

Also, in some Pakistan clans the code is: you always
offer hospitality to a stranger. Why? It is a way to
survive in harsh conditions.

Also, the notion of patriotism in Afghanistan is
unlike our beliefs. The country has been at war for
so long that when a tribe is defeated, they switch
their allegiance to the winner.

Zonkie, I have not studied Afghan or Pakistan's culture,
in depth, but I've heard a few of the above observations
mentioned as to why no one would ever turn Osama or
Omar over to the Americans. Plus, Anti-Americans is
deeply ingrained in the people there. They don't like
strangers. Period.
