Those numbers are not irrelevant. Defense spending is the only largescale government spending program which actually declined in the 90's. Can you name me ONE other government spending program which saw similar declines? Can you name me ONE other government spending program which declined at all over a ten year period? If military spending were a school lunch program (borrowing from the Demolib playbook). we would have starved military members. Would that helicopters have crashed yesterday if it had been upgraded with better technology? Were the pilots given adequate flight time before being sent to Afghanistan? We may never know. What we do know is a helicopter crashed and our servicemembers have been killed. Some of us care enough to understand there is a link between what we pay to upgrade military equipment, and saving lives. And some of us don't.
