I wouldn't be in this stock if it weren't for the fact that GSM operators were going to use WCDMA for their new spectrum. They will begin converting their GSM subscriber bases to WCDMA in critical mass within the next 12 to 18 months.

I think many CDMA fans have been deluded to think that WCDMA will not work. It is going to work just fine. Maybe it won't be as efficient as CDMA2000 right away. However, once they upgrade from WCDMA to multi-mode WCDMA/CDMA2000 multi-network solutions to leverage capacity, it will be impossible to distinguish the 2 versions of CDMA.

I hope that VOD does the reverse in the US. I hope they apply their pressure for VZ to upgrade from 1.25 MHZ CDMA2000 networks to 5 MHZ CDMA2000/WCDMA networks like the Koreans are going to do. The more upgrades, the more replacement cycles, the more chipsets and royalties.
