<font color=red>Bug in Intels Chipsets??
[ By VooDoo >> Jan 15th, 2002 @ 9:35 pm ]
After reading an article a few weeks ago that claimed VIA had a bug in its IDE controllers which caused slow Burst speeds it was interesting to read this....

Question: My ATA100+ drive on Intel Chipset gets only ~80MB/s burst rate and not higher!

Answer: As per errata documents from Intel's website developer.intel.com, the 850, 860 chipsets have a PCI issue (Err 5. Sustained PCI Bandwidth) that limits the PCI transfer rates to 90MB/s rather than 133MB/s. Thus the ICH or external PCI disk controller will be constrained to rates ~80MB/s.

Its from sissoft FAQ!

I reserve the right to be amused by the Intel management approved FUD operation around here, as well as the invincible Itanic operation. You may spew whatever you want, secure in the knowledge that management will step in if you ever happen to let any useful information slip out.
