Perhaps Reagan was a bit overoptimistic about what could be achieved in this area and when, but the direction was correct.

I think he knew it would take years to develop a viable program, but wisely didn't let on this fact.

However, this should in no way bring into doubt the ability for a viable system to eventually be built. The Democrats want quick fixes, "anethesia" injections. This type of technology takes years to develop, but no one should doubt that over time, this technology will be developed and it will work, and it will be able to kill as many inbound missles as anyone could conceivably throw at it.

It is humorous to me the way the opposition to this program tries to suggest that such technologies can't be developed. Where have these people been the last 30 years? Anyone who has seen what we have since the 70s can't possibly be serious about such a statement.

2 - Reagan didn't know exactly how bad their economy is.

Tim, that's not true. When we had this discussion before, someone..maybe Scott or Scumbria......gave references to materials that made clear that Reagan was aware of how weak Russia was as early as the early 80's.
