Now that I see the exact wording of the rule I think he made the right call, because he was hit at the precise moment that he was finishing tucking the ball in after starting his arm forward. I have to give the ref credit for having the balls to reverse the call with the game on the line. Yes, I know it was in favor of the home team, but he just stared at it and reviewed the rule and tried to get it right.

And left us with the most exciting finish to a game in awhile.

"In a similar play in the second game of the season, the Patriots recovered an apparent fumble by Vinny Testaverde of the New York Jets but it was ruled an incomplete pass after being reviewed. The Jets went on to win 10-3."

Of course, what is missing in this discussion is the fact that Woodson inflicted a blow to the head of the QB which should have resulted in a 15 yard penalty and first down. Instead, the Pats had to earn the necessary field position to kick the tying FG.
