Hi ild, I do not think USD will do better than Euro before the drama is over, for I lack the imagination:0) I think savings, trade balance, etc matters. I think the Euro, while definitely still an experimental currency sponsored by a hodge-podge of self-absorbed and contented countries, sought after by another bunch of newly hungry neighboring countries, is however astoundingly and unnatural to the mind, genuine competition to the USD.

Imaging what the Euro can do if the Euros can ever, if ever, get their collective acts together!

Neither the Euro nor the USD is perfect, but both are highly liquid, widely accepted, commonly used, certainly more plentiful than hard metal physical score keeping units, and without a doubt more available from the sources from where they spring.

The USD is still a bit more perfect than the Euro, and thus my allocation.

My balance of USD at greater than Euro and CHF must be viewed within context of beginning of 2001 balance ...

... with Euro at basically zero, and CHF at zero. I move slowly most of the time.

I have no intention of converting in the direction of USD for 2002, given that it takes USD 500k at the local bank to buy 1.5 Big Mac meals per week from the interest. The printing of USD and the non-borrowing and non-spending of USD seems to be a bit excessive, to the point of frightening.
