Yeah, let's allow companies to capitalize all sorts of costs and inflate their balance sheets while overstating earnings. Good idea.

"We decided to get into this because it's hard to compare two companies with similar businesses when one grows internal while the other grows through acquisition," said Halsey Bullen, FASB's senior project manager on the issue.

Hmm. Only a problem because of stupid purchase accounting rules. Not a problem with pooling. Why don't they just allow pooling accounting for all mergers?

The Financial Accounting Standards Board is tossing around the idea of disclosure

I truly do not believe the average investor will understand how to value these even if they are more thouroughly disclosed.
