<The victory makes Newmont the world’s biggest gold- miner. AngloGold will fall to third, behind Canada’s Barrick, which has just completed a US$2 billion takeover of Homestake of the US. >

Not sure the above is 100% accurate

Newmont + Normandy = 5.8 + 2.4 = 8.2
Barrick + Homestake = 3.8 + 2.4 = 6.2

Anglogold produced 7.1moz over the trailing 12 months which appears to keep them in second place. They sold about 1moz of Free State production to Harmony/ARM joint venture which will eventually knock them down closer to 6.1moz - close-to-just-under ABX/HM

By the way, ARM (African Rainbow Minerals) should produce over 1 million ounces in 2002, putting it into the top 15 world producers, which isn't bad for a firm that almost no one has heard of.

Newcrest (700koz producer) is up over 4% today, so maybe it might be the next target ?

Aurion Gold (Delta/Goldfields, about 1.1moz production) might not last long either.

Looks like Blanchard may be (at last) turning bearish on the dollar & bullish on gold.
