The AVRO was superior to the U2... I didn't realize the Avro Arrow was a spy / recon plane. I thought it was an interceptor. Looking through some info on it on the internet I see that it was an interceptor although I suppose if it could fly high enough and long enough it could perform the U2s mission. I also thought from your statement about it being canceled in the 70s that it's competition would have been the F-15 or planes of that generation but maverick2.com says - "For various reasons, mostly due to high costs, the Federal Government cancelled the Avro Arrow program on February 20, 1959. " In 1959 I can see that plane as being very competitive. It doesn't look like the world's best dogfighter but it looks like it could have been a good high speed, high altitude interceptor. Are we perhaps talking about two different planes? Good night, I really have to go to bed now if I am not going to be out of it all day at work tomorrow. Tim
