I am quite sure Intel converted Fab17 in Hudson, MA to .13u.

You're right, it is.

wbmw, >I even posted it once on the forum, but we all know that no one can get the search tool to work worth a damn (where's Scumbria when you need him <g>).

Come back Scumbria! All is forgiven (or whatever, no forgiving necessary).

wbmw, >Also, despite what Eachus says on TMF, I am quite sure Intel converted Fab17 in Hudson, MA to .13u. I remember Intel issuing a press release, but I can't find it. I even posted it once on the forum, but we all know that no one can get the search tool to work worth a damn (where's Scumbria when you need him <g>).

While we're talking about things we posted a while ago but don't have the search engine or the time to do a by-hand search, I said on the thread back in Q4 sometime that I believed Intel's capex spending for 2002 would be considerably less than in 2001, and that it would be bad for the semi equips when Intel came out with it, which they did last week. Note that Andy B. said, and we agreed with him here, that the spending is about right, what it should be, because of 300 mm being started early, and that it saves a lot of capex of itself. Unfortunately, the street has decided Intel's cutback is bad for Intel itself, which is wrong! Anyway, here's a bunch of schlemiels taking credit for the whole thing. They mention only an effect on semi equips, but the damning mention of Intel is in there.

06:48 ET Semi Equipment : A Barron's article discusses Intel's (INTC) larger than expected capital spending reduction and the likelihood of similar cuts by other chip companies; article cites Goldman Sachs analyst Jim Covello for correctly anticipating the Intel cut; Covello still recommends avoiding the entire chip equipment sector.
