Check the number of shares outstanding for AMZN. I will bet anything that they repurchased shares towards the end of the quarter, thus reducing the total number of outstanding shares and increasing the per-share profit enough to turn into a gain.

IBM is the master of this trick- why wouldn't amazon join in the fun?

I have a question. The income statement shows Other income of $5.3 million. It also has Other gains of $16.3 million.

If anyone has a clue what those are, I would love to know. Take them away and there is no income via GAAP. In fact, there is a loss. An unknown income of about $21 million would be nice to have some information on so we know what it is.

I am all ears.
