Big T:

We are similar types. Built my own short wave radios when I was a teen.... vacuum tubes man, and both "a" and "b" batteries required (which kept me broke). Built my own model aircraft radio control systems as well (known in those days as "radio-interfered free flight"). You can now discern just how old I am. (g)

Re ham radio, there is a nifty Yaesu 1000MP transceiver right here in front of me as I type and a huge 11 element beam creates an aluminum overcast over the house. (g) Call sign is VE3FBC

Have similar stories about being exposed to generic tech success stories at an early stage but not being able to make the appropriate investment...... Was deep into GPS before anybody had even heard of it and I invested in some of the early entities. My choices all went TU. (g)

I guess one of the benefits is just in being involved. Watching the world pass across the screen of my GPS moving map display in my homebuilt airplane, and looking out the canopy and seeing exactly the same roads and rivers passing by underneath, is sure a wonder after groping around in the clouds, trying to determine if the NDB signal is real or just an echo from a nearby thunderstorm. Best, Earlie
