Yes, you'd think that would be a no-brainer. But the dual-proc Macs are built using a daughtercard that has two G4s on it. If I'm not mistaken, the system boards themselves aren't any different. The dual-CPU board seems to just plug into the socket where the single CPU would be otherwise.

I haven't had the two types of systems next to one another for comparison, though. I'm just drawing conclusions based on what it looks like in there.

It's definitely not like the AMD and Intel-based systems where the CPU drops into a ZIF socket.

IMHO Apple is slowly eliminating upgrade options. Not surprising considering several people on this thread are using souped up SEs? ;^)

Actually I'm considering upgrading my 8500 because my G4 is not very upgradeable. The fact that I can means it's harder for Apple to sell me a new machine.

Easy and cheap to upgrade my PC. New motherboard, CPU and Ram and I can double or triple my speed for about $500. A lot of PC people can do it for much less.
