Steve & Uncle Frank. re: "That's not odd, Steve, rather, it's SI at its very best. Someone voices a technical question, and up pops a genuine expert ..."

Uncle Frank said it well. This is a "wonderful" thread where intelligent people can speak their minds and often receive extraordinary responses. Thanks again to Aus for keeping SI/SNDK alive and cooking!

With regard to Intel, their general-purpose motherboard chipsets have consistently NOT supported error-correcting memory (ECC). IMHO, the cost of a 9th chip is well worth the comfort of knowing that "flying neutrons" probably won't destroy your registry and take weeks out of your life.

Advice to all: if you haven't made a 100% complete duplicate backup of your PC in the past few days, please consider buying a USB 2.0 or FireWire drive from www.memoryonly.com. $215 + freight buys 60GB of safety. I eventually bought both types (60+GB each) ... but only after having both tape drives and CDs go dead on me at the worst possible moments :-(
