Liz spilled the beans -- it sure does not sound like a "core monster" -- as Liz said "voila! ariba was born. But it was and always will be a peripheral applicaion, imo. This in contrast to I2 and manugistics that have high value-add planning suites." She goes on to say "PS I'm peeved analysts use arba as a barometer of tech software spending. Kinda like using Hummer as barometer for new car spending." My sentiments exactly.
