Fot example, GSM ASSN shows 99.8 MM CDMA subs as of 7/1/2001 compared to CDMA DEV Group showing 96.3 MM as of 6/1/2001. htis represents a 1.0363 monthly growth factor, which, if anything, shows that the GSM ASSN's estimate for 7/1/2002 is a little high.

My theory is that the CDG sometimes overshoots it's numbers, and then will undercount the next quarter.

It's not like this is the first time I have written about this....

Look at this way....if approximately 10% of the CDMA sub base upgraded their handset during the quarter, that would equal about 10m replacement handset. If you add in 14m new subscribers, you would get a total of 24m total CDMA handset sales.

I think I could safely say that Qualcomm would blow every estimate out of the water if this was the case.

I really wouldnt recommend anyone putting any money on the basis of the CDG subscriber count.
