Any compromise or public concession to the hated filty scumbag bastard "Japs" at that time was rather difficult to spit out. Many did speak out but that old snowball just kept rolling and growing larger, and the inner circle of cronys and chosen appointees had their way.
So none of these "inner circle of cronys and chosen appointees" were those respected statesmen and generals and admirals you cited previously? Not one? So Truman brought in his own cronies and they really made the BIG decisions, ignoring all those long established, well respected old fogies? This is your story?

That would be racism.
Evasion. Just what I expected. I didn't ask your race; just your nationality.
I'll start: I'm a citizen of the United States of America.
So what's your citizenship? Japanese? Communist Chinese? Afghani Taliban?

I have been "used" to it for many many years.
Apparently not. However, if you do come up with a method of waging war that will kill only the guilty, be sure and contact DOD. I have no doubt they will be interested.

Christians at the losing end of a war would be willing to give up everything to preserve their "God".
But in fact there have been numerous wars wherein Christians did not win and did not engage in a last ditch, to-the-death fight.
And frankly, I find your remark naive to the point of stupid. Anyone who starts a war understands that they have just engaged in an exercise of unknown outcome and unknown consequence.

I would guess that about 80% of Americans with post secondary education consider now that it was an inhumane choice.
Nuts. I would guess that 80% of Americans agree with Truman's choice to use atomic weapons to end the war.
